most of the time the job is unsupervised, the plaster contractor come by to tell the labor to go faster to keep and unreasonnable schedule so the work is not done correctly.
the damage on that picture below was from not having the right flashing at the roof line, the labor did not live 3/8' to 1/2' room for sealants between plaster and windows, doors,bricks,etc. pre-compressed polyfoam joint seal
and water management v-groove were not installed.

Polished Plasters
Equally suitable for use in both classical and contemporary settings, it is possible to create anything from bold striking bands or panels, to fine rustication lines in columns or pilasters. Some available finishes:
Smooth: Similar to Marmorino Stucco used extensively in northern Italy during the renaissance period as a wall finish and background for the ornate frescoes. Now widely regarded as Venetian Plaster.
Dragged: Inspired by weathered rock. It has a rugged, grainy, yet semi-polished surface characterized by stirations of texture runnning through it.
Cloudy: Using the same materials as the smooth finish however the technique creates a more cloudy marble-like effect with a dense compacted polished surface.
Pitted: A rugged grainy appearance used to create the appearance of lightly polished limestone.
Spatulata: This finish is known as pure luxury, "stucco lustro veneziano." It can be applied in three or four layers and polished to a glassy shine with a small steel blade or trowel.
Travertine: A light open texture and a directional quality similar to the travertine stone. Low sheen applied with one color but has the effect of two or three tones running through it.
Colorwash: A pitted finish enhanced with a colorwash used ideally on large walls. A transparent glaze combined with pure pigment, metallic or pearlescent powder is applied to the plaster.
